Week of March 10, 2014

Dear parents,

This week, we will begin Spring parent teacher conferences.  Students will be dismissed at 1:15 on conference days (March 13-21).  I will attach our class conference schedule to the bottom of the newsletter.

Friday, March 14th is Spring Pictures!

Thank you to our classmates for bringing in your boxes for Pennies for Patients!  Our school is collecting money to donate to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  Our Student Council will be coming around to collect from us through Friday, March 21.

Our class could use a couple boxes of soft tissues if you have one.

Thank you parent helpers in and out of the classroom this week!  We really appreciate YOU!

Please remember library books for Monday.

Have a great weekend, and Spring Forward (Daylight Savings Time).

Week of March 3, 2014

What a wonderful performance last Tuesday evening!  I can tell our Bears were so excited to be at school when it's dark!  They knew it was special! :) Thank you for your support!

We had a great Art Vistas lesson and fun collage project yesterday!

Next week, we will begin parent teacher conferences on Thursday.  Students will be dismissed at 1:15 during conferences.  I send a separate email with our conference schedule.  Thanks for signing up with SignUpGenius!

Next weeks sharing assignment is to bring in a favorite book.  Please have your child place a bookmark or post-it note on one page they would like to share.  There are no clues for this weeks share.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss (on Sunday!)  We will be participating in Read Across America on Monday.  Some of our activities will be:  leisure reading, silent reading, read-aloud, buddy-reading, and making a record of the stories that we read.

Today, your child brought home information and a box for “Pennies for Patients”.  Our school will be collecting funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  Last year we raised close to $4,000!  This will run from March 3-21st.  It would help me greatly, if your child could bring their donation in a ziplock bag.  Please write your child’s name on the bag and how much is in the bag.

Thank you parent volunteers for your help in and out of the classroom this week!

Please remember library books for Monday.  We had all of them this week!!!

Have a great weekend!

Week of February 24, 2014

Room 1 had a great Valentine’s Day!  The students had fun passing out and reading their valentines.  I overheard one student say, “This is the best day ever!”

I hope you have enjoyed some time with your child this week!  We have an eventful week ahead.

I did not send home homework last week.  I will send home packet #20 on Monday and I will give the students some time to get started on their Spelling Sentences and Word of the Week.

The sharing for this week is to verbally tell the class about something you did over President's Break.  Your child may bring in a picture or postcard, if they wish.  No clues are needed.

Tuesday evening will be our 1st Grade Music Performance with Mrs. Abele!  Doors will open at 6:00pm and your child should be there by 6:15pm.  The show will start at 6:30 prompt.  Please wear your classroom BEAR shirt for this event!

We are going on a field trip on Wednesday to see the play, The Frog Prince.  Please keep out the class BEAR shirt for this day, as well!  We will go by bus and will leave about 10:15.  We will return around 12:30-12:45, and the cafeteria will most likely be closed down by that time.  Please send a lunch with your child that day if they usually get hot lunch.  If you need to get a prepared cold lunch through the cafeteria, please let me know ahead of time.

On Thursday we will have an Art Vistas lesson!  If you’re interested in helping out, please let me know.

We’ll be starting our Read Across America participation on Friday, where each of the first grade classes will listen to a story from each first grade teacher.  Monday, March 3rd is the official day for Read Across America and some of our activities will be:  leisure reading, silent reading, read-aloud, buddy-reading, and making a record of the stories that we read.

Please remember library books for Monday.

Looking forward to a great week!

Week of February 10, 2014

I enjoyed seeing all of the Collections and Projects for the 100th day!  On Friday the class went on a tour of all the first grade classes to see the other projects and collections.  I will send home their 100 words spelling test this week.  They deserve big hugs for all their efforts!  :)

We will not have a Valentine's Day party, however we will make Valentine bags and have a chance to deliver Valentine cards.  I sent home a class list last week.
If you do make Valentines, please make sure you bring one to each child, so we don’t have any broken hearts.

Starting in homework packet #19 and going forward we have added Spelling Sentences.  I would like each student to write 3 sentences, trying to use two of their spelling words from the list in each sentence.  Hopefully they had a chance to practice in class on Friday for this packet.  **My apologies, it looks like I left out the math portion of the homework, I will send it home on Monday.**
